Naïf Responsibility

The mission of Naïf is to change the world of personal care. Approximately 9 out of 10 care products contain microplastics. That can and must be better. We are transforming all personal care into good care. That means: no microplastics, no SLES and no mineral oils. We believe it's possible! By staying naïve, we change the world. Naïf? Yes we are!

Our Impact

There is much wrong in the world of personal care: shower gels full of microplastics, sunscreen products with harmful UV filters, creams based on petroleum and shampoos with SLES (foaming agent). Not necessary, we think! And so we do it differently: good care for the whole family, with as little impact on the planet as possible. So that our products are not only good for your baby, but also for the baby of the baby of your baby. That's how we change the world of personal care.

We believe that companies have responsibility and that profit and impact can not only go together, but also must go together (we are a B-Corp for a reason). That's why we are constantly working to improve our products and reduce our impact. Our dream? Climate-neutral and plastic-free products. Baby step by baby step. But how far have we actually come and how much impact are we really making? Good question! That's why we've made our steps as concrete as possible. This way, we and you can see exactly how far we've come and where we want to go.

We want to take the best possible care of people & skin

We can promise you one thing: we will never sell you anything we wouldn't use for our own children. That means we consciously choose to avoid all ingredients that could pose a health risk or have negative effects. That's why all our products are free of microplastics, contain no SLES and are made of at least 92 percent ingredients of natural origin. Where possible, we will always choose the natural alternative. And: we will always be honest and make no false claims. To make the world of personal care hopefully a little more transparent. Difficult words don't moisturize!

We want to take the best possible care of the planet

Everything we make has an impact on the planet. Caring for future generations also means caring for the world in which they grow up. That's why we try to do everything we do as sustainably as possible, in order to reduce our impact. To make this more concrete, we have set three sustainability goals. Good sunscreen can be seen!

We are working hard to improve the formula of our sunscreen that is not only good for the skin, but also less harmful to the environment.

Good care for the world means good care for the ocean. The ocean is actually an untapped superpower. It absorbs 99 percent of the warming of the earth. In short, the ocean plays an important role in the fight against global warming.

Every year, 14,000 tons of sunscreen end up in the ocean. More than three-quarters of sunscreens sold in the Netherlands contain a non-mineral filter. Some of these chemical UV filters, such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, have been proven harmful to coral.

As Naïf, we wanted to do something about this. In 2016 we launched our first mineral sunscreen, with a mineral filter based on zinc oxide (non-nano). In 2022 we launched our first sun lotion (alongside our creams) and added a 0% fragrance option to our range.

In the Netherlands, in 2022, only 2 percent of sold sunscreens had a mineral filter. The majority of this was actually ours. That's why we know there's still a lot of work to be done.

Impact Report

Big news! Our first impact report is out and the proof is there: we are working to change the personal care industry together with you, baby step by baby step. We believe that transparency is the path to progress, and so we measure our impact and share our successes and challenges.

Naïf's Sustainability Goals

1. We want to reduce our ecological footprint.

We do this in different ways:

Reduce CO2 footprint We believe that sustainability is the only future. In the fight against climate change, we strive for a sustainable business with as little CO2 emissions as possible. In all aspects of our business and also with our partners. From production to delivery.

More environmentally friendly packaging Packaging is one of the biggest challenges in the personal care industry. That's why we are constantly working to improve it. We do this in collaboration with our producers, but also with other B-corps in a special working group on the packaging of the future. What does this mean?

  • We will always try to choose the best alternative to (virgin) plastic: at the moment all our tubes are made of bioplastic, made from sugar cane. At the time, this was the best alternative, but soon we will switch to recycled plastic.

  • Reduction of (unnecessary) packaging material. Think of limiting unnecessary boxes around tubes, but also the introduction of our refill packaging, with which we can save up to 5 tubes.

  • We will always avoid plastic, where possible, in our supply chain. Think of plastic use in shipping, logistics and at the office.

Protecting biodiversity Everything we make has an impact on the environment. By making conscious choices about what we do and don't put in our products, we hope to minimize this impact. So we choose to use or not use the following ingredients:

  • Natural ingredients: our products consist of at least 92 percent ingredients of natural origin

  • No microplastics: none of our products contain microplastics. Microplastics contribute to the plastic soup in the ocean. About 2 percent of all plastic in the sea comes from microplastics from personal care. We choose to remove this from all our products.

  • Coral-friendly UV filters: our mineral filters do not contain oxybenzone or octinoxate like some chemical UV filters. These substances can damage coral and that's why we choose to leave them out of our sunscreen.

  • As little water as possible: water is very important. That's why we limit the use of water in our production.

We know how confusing it can be to decide which ingredients you do or don't want to use. It's becoming increasingly difficult to decipher a product's ingredient list. We think that must change! That's why we've listed all the ingredients we do or don't use. And also the claims we consciously no longer make. So you can naively walk into the store again!

2. We want to set a good example!

A better environment starts with yourself. That's why we want to show that it can be better and must be better. By raising awareness among both consumers and other companies in our industry, we hope to change the world of personal care.

3. We want to help families

Our motto is good care, worry-free! That means we want to help families. Of course, first and foremost by making good personal care products, but that's not enough. We believe that children are the future and that we must care for that future generation in every possible way. That's why we invest in this generation through sponsorships and education.
