Fact or fiction: with a higher protection factor you can stay in the sun longer

Geposted von am

True. The higher the protection factor (SPF) means the higher the protection against UVB radiation. This does not mean that you are always protected against UVA radiation, which can cause aging skin. The natural filter from our Naïf Protecting Sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB radiations. Ingredients such as Shea Butter and Zinc Oxide do not only protect the skin, but they also nourish the skin at the same time!

Differences between UVA radiation and UVB radiation

Sunlight consists of about 95% of UVA rays and about 5% of UVB rays. It is the UVB rays that can cause burning. This is why it is extremely important that you apply sunscreen and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Differences in SPF

You have sunscreen with SPF 10, but also SPF 50. Our sunscreen has a factor of 50. Here is a comparison: with factor of 15, you are 93% protected. With a factor of 50, you are more than 98% protected. The choice for a child’s skin is therefore quite clear.

However, this protection only applies if you re-apply sunscreen every 2 hours…

This protection is only effective if you re-apply sunscreen every 2 hours. In addition, we usually apply sunscreen too lightly on our skin to really get the protection a sunscreen promised to give. Plus, some of your sunscreen disappears through perspiration, friction of clothing or drying. How long can you really stay in the sun without smearing off your sunscreen also depends on your skin type and the amount of sun. So listen carefully to your body and re-apply sunscreen constantly!

If you want to sunbathe safely, then look for the shade. And certainly stay out of the sun between 12h00 and 15h00. Do not forget to re-apply every 2 hours and be generous with the cream. In fact, you might as well put on a thick layer of sunscreen on your skin.

To take care of the skin and to cool it down, it is wise to also use an after-sun cream. Our Natural Aftersun soothes and cools. Ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Glycerin reduce redness of the skin after exposure to UV radiation. Kids love to have fun in the sun, but no one likes sunburned babies.
